International Licences

Publishers are able to amend their prices for photocopying and scanning.International Collective Licensing - be involved, but only as much as you wish to be... Some publishers work closely with overseas collecting societies. However, for those publishers that prefer not to, the UK collective licensing scheme converses with RROs (reprographic rights organisations) around the world on their behalf. The Copyright Licensing Agency (CLA) has ‘bilateral agreements’ with 27 other RROs which have their own domestic collective licensing system. So, if your works are copied in any of those 27 countries, you may be eligible for royalties which would be paid to you via PLS. Many of the licences issued in other countries are blanket or statutory. However, there are optional licences available in the USA and France in which publishers are able to amend their settings via PLS and their PLSe account. These include:

CCC’s Academic Permissions Service (APS)

Enables universities in the USA to create course packs. Publishers are able to amend their prices for photocopying and scanning.

CCC’s Transactional Reporting Service (TRS)

Enables businesses in the USA to copy parts of works for research. Publishers are able to set their photocopy rates via PLS for the above.

CFC’s Document Delivery licence

A French document delivery service which photocopies and delivers (by post) to clients for a fixed copyright fees (this service is currently in development in PLSe).

International Collective Digital Licensing

In addition, publishers can sign up to digital licensing systems around the world via PLS. More and more RROs are launching digital licences, some of which are statutory, (e.g. Australia’s educational licences) and you could benefit from those by opting in.
