Digital Licences                                Digital

Ensure that your digital publications are covered by collective licensing

These new important licences work by adding digital publications to the copiable repertoire of print publications.  But publishers need to actively include themselves in these licences to be eligible to receive royalties. PLS recommends that publishers sign up to all the CDLs available.  It is also important for us to have support from publishers not yet launching born-digital publications – this ensures that CLA licences remain ‘inclusive’ of all publishers which adds great value for CLA customers.

Why you should sign up to collective digital licensing

Publishers can expect to earn copy royalties from their digital publications for the limited re-use enabled by these licences.

The limited copying terms expressed in CLA’s print licences extend to their digital licences - licensees are not permitted to republish, resell, or circulate material to third parties under these licences.

  • Digital licences aim to raise awareness of copyright in a digital environment.
  • By adding digital copying rights to the CLA licences, they remain relevant and convenient for CLA licensees.
  • Currently over 1,300 publishers are supporting CLA’s collective digital licences.
  • Collective digital licensing in the UK works on an opt in basis for publishers.
