Towards Accessible e-Book Platforms: Good Practice Guidance on Future Developments Over the last few years the publishing industry have recognised that e-books have enormous potential to extend access and make previously ‘static’ printed textbooks fully accessible to all users. However, e-book reading platforms and interfaces can compromise accessibility. In response to this, Publishers Licensing Society along with JISC TechDis and JISC Collections funded a small scale project in 2009 to explore the accessibility issues and usability of industry leading products in order to raise awareness and make recommendations to the industry itself. In response to the project PLS have collaborated in developing good practice guide for accessible e-book platforms which were launched at the Lookup Awards at the London Book Fair on Wednesday. The guide is now available to download as an accessible text only version ( - 392 KB) and PDF (print only) version ( - 702 KB). The results of the research also form the basis of a full report (doc - 1377 KB). We’d like to thank all those publishers that have contributed to making both the guidelines a huge success.
